''Flexibility and adaptability reason for Indian Air Force's success in heights of Kargil"

Flexibility and adaptability reason for Indian Air Force's success against Pakistani army, which was well entrenched on icey heights of Kargil, said former IAF veteran and Kargil war hero Group Captain Ashwani Bhakoo on the eve of 22nd Kargil Vijay Diwas, commemorated on July 26 every year since 1999.
Group Captain Bhakoo, who was a Wing Commander during Kargil conflict, led the 14th Squadron comprising of the Jaguars for undertaking aerial photo reconnaissance of enemy positions located at a height of 18,000 feet above sea level as part of Operation Safed Sagar (code name for IAF action during Kargil war, which was code named as Op Vijay, involving the Army).
This was the first time that the IAF had undertaken a massive scale combat and surveillance at such high altitude.
The experience of high altitude combat during Kargil operations has led the IAF to procure multirole fighters and advanced attack helicopters that would be able to undertake action in icey heights of LAC along Ladakh, where China has become a big threat, Group Captain Bhakoo says.
