The world of 4546B is a beautiful, unique ecological paradise. The volcanic crater features 15 diverse surface biomes, 2 distinct islands, 18 cave biomes, and 4 other mini-biomes. Each of these biomes features unique flora and fauna specialized for the environment they live in. After the player fixes their lifepod in Subnautica, they receive a PDA entry titled “4546B Environment Scan.” This scan specifically notes the extensive levels of biodiversity found within the crater. And this is not at all surprising. The biodiversity in this small 2 kilometer by 2 kilometer crater is unlike anything ever seen before on Earth. Confronted with such diversity in such a small area, one may start to wonder why this area is so diverse in the first place? What causes the crater in Subnautica to have such high levels of biodiversity? Well, let’s go through all the possibilities…
