During the Corona period, the export of goods to India through Benapole port decreased by about 42,000 tons. Although it may seem like an economic downturn in Corona, traders say otherwise. Apart from Corona, exporters are reluctant to export goods due to unnecessary search and harassment of Bangladeshi cargo vehicles in the Indian part.According to Benapole Customs sources, various products produced in Bangladesh worth around Tk 6,000 crore are exported to India through land ports every year. In the five years from 2014-15 financial year to 2018-19 fiscal year, 16 lakh 51 thousand 256 tons of different types of products were exported. Of this, 4 lakh 1 thousand 17 tons of goods were exported in 2018-19 financial year, 3 lakh 36 thousand 629 tons of goods were exported in 2019-20 financial year. And in the last 2020-21 financial year 2 lakh 96 thousand 46 tons of products have been exported.Matiar Rahman, chairman of the India-Bangladesh Landport Import Export Subcommittee, told the media, "80 per cent of the land trade in the country is through Benapole port." As the communication system is easy, the traders of the two countries are more interested in trade in this way from the very beginning. But export activities were closed for the last six months due to Kavid. Besides, the commercial activities are being disrupted due to various forms of harassment in the Indian part of the port.
