When 17-year-old Hailey James went to attend Country Fest with her family in late June, she had no intention of ending up on stage with Dustin Lynch.

During an interview with Taste of Country, James noted that her parent’s go every year and have seats towards the front – this year she decided to go with them.
As Dustin Lynch was on stage singing his set, he asked the crowd if anyone would want to come up on stage with him and sing his duet “Thinking ‘Bout You”. Because James’ parents had attended Country Fest every year, those around them knew of the high schooler’s singing abilities and began to attract Lynch’s attention.
“I wasn’t paying attention so didn’t hear him say that,” James noting the moment he asked for someone to join him. “The next second I hear Dustin say on stage, ‘They’re all pointing at you…do you want to sing with me’”.
Up she went on stage and although she was nervous at first, that fear quickly subsided as she settled into her “pinch me moment”.
