Liverpool 'interested' in Philippe Coutinho return
The Reds are keen for a Philippe Coutinho reunion, according to Mundo Deportivo, but will face competition from Tottenham.

The Spanish publication claims Liverpool have the Brazilian on their radar if a situation arose in which they lost a star player this summer.

In that case, it would appear Spurs have a pretty clear path to sign the playmaker.

Lionel Messi to leave Barcelona
The Barcelona man will no longer continue at the Spanish giants, club sources have announced.

Their statement reads:

D espite FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi having reached an agreement and the clear intention of both parties to sign a new contract today, this cannot happen because of financial and structural obstacles (Spanish Liga regulations).

As a result of this situation, Messi shall not be staying on at FC Barcelona. Both parties deeply regret that the wishes of the player and the club will ultimately not be fulfilled.

FC Barcelona wholeheartedly expresses its gratitude to the player for his contribution to the aggrandisement of the club and wishes him all the very best for the future in his personal and professional life.

Van Dijk takes huge step forward
Liverpool take on Bologna in two 60-minute friendlies today and Virgil van Dijk will make his start since returning from serious injury.

The Dutchman made his long-awaited comeback after more than nine months out with a serious knee problem when coming through a 21-minute run-out from the bench against Hertha Berlin last Thursday.

And the centre-back will take another significant step in today's match at the Stade Camille-Fournier in Evian, France.

Van Dijk will partner Joel Matip in defence, with Jurgen Klopp largely retaining the side that has started the last two friendlies.

That's for now from Anfield.
