Positions such as those require a comprehensive background check. One must be of the legal age of consent -- at the least -- in order to acquire such a job and may also need for special bond issue in order to safely perform their job duties. It also requires entry into federal databases that are supposed to be exclusive to national security, including in consideration of port security, and would have been under consideration in regards to proposed changes to legislation in 2008 concerning "technology upgrades" to "border security."
