Agricultural authorities in Xingyang City of central China's Henan Province, which was recently hit by floods, have been organizing massive plant protection operations with drones to minimize the impact of the disaster on agricultural production.
The city's Agricultural Commission has arranged local agricultural companies to conduct pest and disease control operations with drones in disaster-stricken areas.
Professional operators first pour pesticides into drone's boxes, and then set up their flight routes and flight altitudes for them to spray pesticides.
Compared with human labor, drones are faster, safer and also more efficient and accurate.
By spraying fertilizers, insecticides, fungicides and plant growth regulators, the commission hopes to contain diseases and pests, and minimize the losses of farmers.
"Our company has arranged more than 50 drones to protect crops like corns and peanuts in our city," said Wei Gong, head of the drone operation team of a local agricultural supplies company.
As the drones can cover 330 hectares a day, the task of spraying over 6,530 hectares is expected to be completed within this week.
