NEW YORK, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Canberra's practice in backing Washington to confront Beijing may leave it stand alone, James Laurenceson, director of the Australia-China Relations Institute at the University of Technology Sydney, has warned.Australia is now an outlier on many fronts, including trade disruption and somewhat lukewarm receptions as it tries to rally other Asian countries to slander China, Laurenceson wrote in an opinion piece published on Fortune magazine website on Thursday. In the realm of trade, Washington has yet to show any interest in bearing a cost to make good on the promise that it "will not leave Australia alone on the field," he said, adding that the latest trade data showed U.S. commodities were carving out a niche in the Chinese market left by Australia.Australia's approach to managing its relations with the United States and with China "has provided a cost-free lesson for those elsewhere," Laurenceson said.
