
Labor will probably try and stay “fairly close” to US President Joe Biden on climate policy, according to former Labor advisor Darrin Barnett.
“I think they’ll probably try peg the fortunes to the US leader, and the leader of the free world,” Mr Barnett told Sky News Australia.
“They’ll probably focus on electric vehicles and have a stronger policy than the Coalition … Whether they go for targets in the way that happened under Bill Shorten - they may well be wary of going too hard.
“The government, probably prefer, if they’re talking about the US relationship to talk about AUKUS and defence.
“Both of those are probably strong suits – defence for the Coalition, climate for Labor.
“I think probably, the battle lines are drawn.”
