Since we just did a huge purge of Story's toys and talked about what it means to donate to families in need we decided that today we would also try to go shopping for a FULL Thanksgiving Dinner, spending less than $100, to donate to families in need as well. I'm trying really hard to show Story that the holidays arent just about receiving but that we need to think about sharing what we have with people who could use a little help. I remember a time when we were getting help with groceries and had a difficult time with basic necessities so I want to show her ways to help others who need assistance as well. I think she understood the concept to the smallest degree and I want to make this a tradition for us as long as we have the means to do so. We went to our local Aldi because they have the most affordable produce and variety of products....and because we just love Aldi ourselves. I was able to load up a full cart with items for a complete Thanksgiving dinner (with the exception of 2 ingredients which I picked up at the Dollar Tree on the way home) and spent around $80. Later in the day we went to Walmart and picked up a turkey for about $14. I had a few more dollars so I added a set of serving utensils, holiday plates and napkins, disposable turkey roasting pan and casserole pans....and I found some immune support chewables and childrens ibprophen for bargain deals so I threw those in as well. I think we did really well. I contacted my neighbor who is a Pastor and they are going to select a family from their church to receive it all this weekend. Overall success! It made us happy to help and I truly hope it helps a family in need and makes them happy as well. Tis the season to give, folks!
