How's it going everybody welcome back and a short video today addressing the myth that VPNs increase your internet speed. That's not really how it works. Now, there is an exception, but which is I mean, something that's very rare generally. But yeah, I'll talk about it in just a second after explaining how a VPN connection works. Now, imagine that this is the internet, this little dot right here is, represents the internet. And let's say you're in, let's say, you're in Iceland, okay? Now, when you connect to the internet, without a VPN, you're connecting from your ISP servers here in Iceland, all you know, straight to the internet. And it really is as simple as that. So of course, that makes for the best possible internet connection you could get. However, when you connect to a VPN, and most likely, when you're connecting to a VPN, you're not looking for servers within the same country. So let's say the country that you connect it to will be Norway, you're going to be connecting from your IP address right here. So from Iceland, to Norway, it's going to be connection, it will be traveling all the way to Norway, and then to the internet. So of course, logically speaking, the longer the distance, the slower your internet connection will become, the worse the ping, you know that you'll have more Ping. So if you're going to be connecting from Iceland, to Miami, and then straight back to the internet, this is going to cause speed drops and upload and download speeds. As well as you'll be experiencing worse being much worse being in fact, so, you know, if you're looking for gaming, for example, it's better that you stick within the same continent or region. So now, can a VPN improve internet speed well, under specific circumstances VPNs can increase speeds for certain services, Internet service providers, or ISP is sometimes throttle or artificially slow down specific types of traffic. For example, several major isbs have throttled streaming services, or streaming entertainment services like Netflix. If an ISP throttles communication speeds with specific with a specific service, a VPN could circumvent this throttling, because the VPN encryption will prevent the ISP from knowing which services the user is communicating with. So under such circumstances, of course, you could improve your speed, but the way a VPN works, it naturally slows down your speed. So that's just how it works.
