On the evening of November 2, Peng Shuai , a 35-year-old professional tennis star, published a lengthy post on her certified Weibo account, a leading social media platform in China, revealing her affair with former Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli , who is 75 years old. The post was deleted 20 minutes after publishing. The news has been banned in China and online discussions and comments are forbidden. However, the story has exploded worldwide, as it is something unprecedented in the history of the Chinese Communist Party or CCP.
Ms. Peng's post contains wordings like the Standing Committee and Zhang Gaoli's name. It’s very odd for it to get sent out. In China, posts with direct mention of national leaders are manually checked. If no one were behind Ms. Peng, it wouldn’t have been possible for the post to be seen by the public.
